Momentum 2: An orchestra of strings, woodwinds, piano and percussion provides the perfect range of textures to give a variety of atmospheres, from the corporate to the natural world. These compositions employ minimalist techniques. They can have a slightly hypnotic effect, but always support the visual or spoken message without intruding. These pieces are driven mainly by staccato or pizzicato strings, or percussion patterns, and suggest a range of energies, from the purposeful to quizzical, and the uncertain to the positive.
Dick Walter composed the first known minimalist track for a tv commercial, CellNet, (later O2), in 1985, and has used these compositional techniques in several jazz pieces as well as the chamber work, Excursions for Baritone Saxophone and String Quartet.
