ROGER DEXTER

SMOOTH GROOVES

Cool/Jazzy/Sophisticated

Jazz has always been part of my life. When I got my first guitar I tried to play like Wes Montgomery and later, George Benson – I had the privilege of jamming with him in his home studio. I also loved the great blues and R&B players.

Jazz today seems to encompass more and more styles and that’s a good thing as it exposes more people to the medium. I have tried to add a more contemporary edge to this album and I think it is more accessible to the average music lover as a result.

The brief for this album was that it should be ‘Jazzy but accessible’ and have ‘broad appeal while still retaining the jazz feel.’ This was music to my ears. I suppose you could describe it as ‘cool jazz.’ I have blended the styles of New York with Latin and blues influences and I’m delighted with the result. Guitar and a brass section are featured on most of the tracks (one even features a harmonica). There are the usual sub-mixes and edits for those who need a more ‘sparse’ version.

I hope you enjoy the music as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
